Kangana is a village in Bengal where Nutu lived. He was a freedom fighter and loved a girl named Kalyani. When he was in jail, Kalyani got married to someone else. When Nutu was released from jail, he married a simple village girl named Bimala. Later, he became a teacher in a small village school. The zamindar Mukherjee of Kangana tried to take all the land from poor farmers, and as a result Nutu revolted against the zamindars and sued them. Nutu became famous and within few years won the election, but power corrupted him.
